Meet Amanda

Researcher. Builder. Storyteller.

Connecting people and ideas to the lived and material conditions of collaboration.

Amanda, founder of A Casa da Velha

I am a curious and systems-oriented researcher, builder and storyteller from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with a background spanning business, market intelligence, consumer research and self-organising systems, and over a decade of experience working across different sectors, countries and organisational contexts.

Much of my work has involved understanding and navigating complex situations: researching how people think and behave, bringing together multiple sources of information, navigating different perspectives and making sense of ambiguity in order to identify patterns, insights, possibilities and practical ways forward.

Over time, this expanded from understanding consumers and organisations to an interest in understanding the systems in which people operate. This led me to work directly with decentralised groups and international networks, researching, designing and facilitating collaborative processes, as well as training and coaching people to work together more effectively.

All of these different contexts have shaped the way I combine analytical research with creativity and attention to human dynamics in approaching challenges: looking for the patterns underneath them, while staying attentive to context, different perspectives and finding ways to turn complexity into frameworks that can be explored in practice.

What continues to drive me most is connecting people and ideas to the lived and material conditions of collaboration: our relationships, our bodies, our environments, our access to resources, our everyday responsibilities, and the practical steps through which people’s leaderful visions can become inhabitable and real.

I encountered this passion in many different forms throughout my life, including very early in my professional path. I was just six months into college when I joined my university’s student-run business incubator. Different cohorts worked together on real projects for real clients, creating a culture of mutual learning, responsibility and growth. It gave me my first job, invaluable hands-on experience, and many open doors that followed.

I experienced first-hand what can emerge when people create opportunities for one another, learn across generations of experience, and build shared-purpose together.

A Casa da Velha is a direct expression and extension of this work.
