Our Approach

Kinship & Livelihood,
the seeds of social resilience.

Creating cooperatives is not, by itself, evidence of success. Our measurement is whether people can collaborate effectively, thrive economically, and generate meaningful social and ecological value.

Resilient relational cultures

Kinship

Practise trust, shared responsibility and ways of working through difference, so people can make decisions and care for one another over time.

Ecological economic transition

Livelihood

Build useful work that supports people’s material needs while caring for the places and resources on which that work depends.

A diverse community. Shared purposes to sprout.

A Casa brings together people from different walks of life for the shared purposes of learning, experimenting and responding to our collective challenges. Through our programs, cooperatives and shared spaces, new partnerships, tools and adaptable models emerge, accessible by others in our library of commons.

Learning, expertise and exchange

Learn with people who have done it

Experienced growers, makers, educators, researchers and cooperative practitioners contribute teaching, mentoring and practical guidance. Shared exploration is supported by specialist knowledge, not left to trial and error alone.

A place in a wider network

Local people can participate without living at the House. Exchanges with aligned initiatives and programmes, in Portugal and internationally, bring different cultures and forms of expertise into real work.

Make learning available to others

The intended library of commons will hold practical methods, case studies, teaching formats and adaptable blueprints. Documenting conditions, costs, difficulties and changes is as important as documenting what worked.
